Machinist, ATA Gears Oy, Tampere
Would you like to do something more than just serial production? Interested in the opportunity to work with a modern machine fleet? Want to develop into a gear‑manufacturing professional? Read more!

ATA Gears is an internationally recognized manufacturer of bevel gears, with expertise built on a long, nearly 90‑year history, a modern machine base, uncompromising quality, and people who are passionate about power transmission and continuous development.
We are now looking for a Machinist to join our team in a permanent position.
Your key responsibilities
As a machinist, your workday begins with a shift handover and a review of the ongoing job. During the day, your tasks include interpreting technical drawings, planning machine setups and tooling, and performing machining either on CNC or manual machines. On CNC machines, you will also carry out programming and program adjustments. New programs are created for new jobs, while existing ones are developed and optimized. Some tasks require more advanced independent programming skills.
Your work also includes measuring components, ensuring quality, and developing working methods. The work is mostly independent but not solitary — support is always available from experienced colleagues and supervisors when needed.
Machinery and working environment
ATA Gears operates a wide and technically demanding range of machinery, including specially manufactured manual gear‑hobbing machines and modern CNC machines. Our CNC machines use Siemens, Heidenhain, Multus, and Mazatrol controls. The machine base includes equipment from DMG, Mazak, Multus, Carnaghi, Fermat, and Mikron. We provide thorough training for machining tasks, and sufficient time is allocated for learning each machine.
Induction and training
Your onboarding at ATA Gears follows a structured training plan. General orientation covers our operating practices, and machining tasks are taught by an experienced machine operator working on the same machine. We always reserve enough time for training, and in the beginning, work is guided and done in pairs. Our onboarding process consistently receives excellent feedback from new employees. Training for each machining task typically lasts several months.
What kind of person are we looking for?
The qualities we value most are initiative, proactiveness, and above all, a genuine desire to learn. Attitude is everything — we can teach the rest. To succeed in this role, you need certain basic skills: good ability to read technical drawings, basic knowledge and understanding of materials and machinability, and familiarity with measuring tools. We are known for our uncompromising quality, and we want to maintain that reputation. Therefore, we hope that carefulness, precision, and the ability to notice deviations come naturally to you.
CNC tasks require programming skills or the willingness to learn them. Depending on your background, you may already be a highly skilled programmer looking for larger components, new challenges, and the next step in your career — or you may be at the beginning of your machining journey with solid basic skills and a strong hunger to learn more.
Our extremely broad machine base allows us to offer each motivated machinist tasks and challenges that match their skill level. In your application, tell us what you already know, what you have done, and where you would like to develop further.
